Sweet Treats: Samoa Bars

These yummy little Samoa Bars served as dessert on the tropical themed dinner night.

I mean, they have coconut in them so that kind of counts, right?
Ok whatever, I just miss Girl Scout cookies and wanted them.
So there.

Good Eats: Carribean Chicken Wings

Uhhh so have I mentioned how much we love to cook?

And by cook, of course I actually mean EAT!

We decided to ignore the stormy weather last Friday night and created our own tropical fun with chips and salsa, summery cocktails and these delicious little Carribean chicken wings, recipe courtesy of Food Network's Sunny Anderson.

Mojitos and Hemingways completed our theme.

Yummy and easy, check 'em out.

Fun little dessert accompanied these, coming soon!

February winds down

Fantastic weekend filled with good eating, sweet baby snuggling, and best of all, time together.
Especially sweet, as Ant is preparing to leave me for the rest of the week for a work trip : (

We cooked great food, enjoyed a drink out at Thai Pot followed by some take out, and met up with Jessi at Merroir for mussels and cocktails.

I'm so glad to see February coming to an end. I know consistently warm weather is still a little while away, but March gives me refreshed excitement for the promise of spring and I welcome it with open arms. Well, in a day and a half. Stupid Leap Year, making me one day farther from March!

Seriously, could my little twin baby cousins be any CUTER?!?
Ughh I love them!! I got in a visit with them on Saturday and took some cute pics, but figured I should send the pics to their momma before posting for others. Stay tuned.

Recipes coming too.
I am seriously a crazy lady in the kitchen these days.
Which means I need to become a crazy lady on the treadmill too.
Boooooooo.

Good Eats: Honey Garlic Chicken Drumsticks

This was our Monday night dinner and
so easy and yummy I just had to share.

(and this isn't my picture, I stole it off the recipe website. I was too hungry to take pics first)

I had bought a huge pack of chicken drumsticks for dirt cheap and good old Pinterest came through and led me to this recipe that was sooooo good!

I knew I wanted to make some kind of penne, peas and cheese sauce to go with the chicken and upon Googling, found a great recipe that I went off of to make a yummy side dish.
(I didn't use the ham, substituted Vermont white cheddar and a little blue cheese, and used panko - it was great!)

Have a great weekend!

SCARY!...no wait, sweet

So yesterday Ant went out of town for work
to spend the night in DC.
In the afternoon, I ran home to get something
and the back door was open.
Not wide open, but not shut.
Feeling a bit freaked out, with my finger hovering over the send button to call 911
I cautiously and nervously entered the house,
because I'm kind of a wimp like that.
I took a few tentative steps through the house,
on high alert for intruders.
Because you know, White Stone is pretty dangerous
at 3 pm on a Tuesday.
From the living room I could see into our bedroom
and I saw clothes all over the floor.
(and no, I had not left them there from that morning!)

I thought, oh my gosh- our house has been RANSACKED!

Upon closer inspection, this is what was on the floor:

I kind of have the cutest husband ever.

.....is what I was thinking after I convinced the 911 operator that everything was ok.

Just kidding.
A cute surprise that would have been just a little cuter if only that darn door hadn't been open : )

baby shower & "family dinner"

Fun filled weekend with lots of great friends!

Friday night the girls threw a baby shower for Wister to get ready for the arrival of baby Millie!

It was so wonderful to spend some time with the girls!

Saturday night we had our monthly "family dinner" night with friends.

The boys cooked while the girls had a drink (or two) at the bar, then we came home to eat and drink together and play games.

everybody's favorite party baby: Baby Tucker

Great dinner and so much fun with awesome friends!

Sunday brought yummy cooking and relaxing, waiting for the snow to roll in (which did come, but didn't hang around long!)
- perfectly cozy Sunday!

Meatloaf "Cupcakes"

These are soooooo not pretty.

My mashed potatoes were too fluffy and wouldn't holding their "icing shape" : (

Oh well, they were still pretty cute, fun to eat, and definitely tasty!

When he went back for seconds, Ant wanted to "frost" his own.

Pretty, huh?

*side note: as of Tuesday night, that Zac Brown'esque beard is gone for another year*

Good Eats: Flatbread & Chicken Bites

Now, let's talk about some of this obsessive eating cooking I've been doing lately. Thanks to the likes of the blog world and Pinterest, our kitchen has been seeing a lot of action.

This was our Sunday night dinner:

Butternut Squash, Red Onion and Cheddar Flatbread

It's always nice to have your own in-house professional dough tosser.

No fancy recipe. Store bought pizza dough brushed with some garlicky olive oil, topped with butternut squash, red onion, thyme and shredded cheddar cheese.

...and THESE babies:

Bacon Wrapped Blue Cheese Stuffed BBQ Chicken Bites

Ohhhhhh yeaaaaaa. They were crazy good.

a white'ish weekend

It wasn't much, but it sure was pretty to watch fall for a bit!

Not to mention the 25 mph winds that accompanied the dusting made for a pretty cozy weekend in front of the fireplace watching movies, sipping cocktails and eating A LOT of good food.
More to come on that later.
Seriously people.
My cooking habit is currently out. of. control.

Sweet Treats: Ant's Donuts

*Note: I start a lot of posts and don't finish them/don't post them. This was one of them. I had to share because he just looks so darn cute baking away in our kitchen : ) *

Anyone who knows Anthony knows that he looovveesss sweets.

He has a particularly great affinity for donuts.
A few weeks ago, he wanted to make me donuts, just like his Aunt Bobbie taught him.

Using a can of Pillsbury refrigerated biscuits, he separated each of the pre-cut biscuit circles, then using a (hopefully washed out) beer bottle, cut out holes from the centers.

He removed and saved the centers from the bottle with a toothpick
(hello donut holes!)

told him he'd regret this...

While the oil was heating on the stove, he set out his "toppings"- powdered sugar in one bowl, and a cinnamon sugar mixture in another, and mixed up his glaze using powdered sugar and a splash of half and half.

Once the oil was good and hot, he fried them up til both sides were a nice golden brown.

Since Ant was busying frying up the dough, it was my job to dress them in various sugary toppings and pop them in the oven to stay warm while the rest were cooking. (not the glazed, we just topped those last so the glaze wouldn't melt off in the oven)

Delicious!

Now that I know he can cook,
there may be some different expectations at home... : )
